John Piper on the Dangers of the Prosperity Gospel

One of the pillars that GTN is founded upon is “sound doctrine” (1 Timothy 1:10; 6:3; 2 Timothy 4:3; Titus 1:9; 2:1).

In other words, preaching and teaching clearly the full and complete truth of Scripture (the whole counsel of God) and correcting false teaching where necessary. I believe one of the greatest scourges within Christianity today here in America and around the world is what is referred to as the “prosperity gospel.” Or as others have called it, the “name it, claim it and frame it” theology.

I wanted to pass along to you this short two and a half minute profound (it truly is profound) video of John Piper talking about the “prosperity gospel” and then sharing how powerful the true gospel message is and how God is able to meet the deepest needs of our soul when we are hit with the hurts and heartaches and tragedies of life (which we all face at one time or another this side of heaven).

As the Apostle Paul told his young protege, Timothy, …

Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

Blessed to be a blessing to all peoples on earth,

Paul
